The Origin of the name Dr.TiqueStar
In the early 1990s, while studying at the Grafisch Lyceum Amsterdam (GLA), Dr. TiqueStar first became known as “Tik”, a nickname given by friends and fellow graffiti writers Chohe and Jerms.
As his style evolved, so did his name. “Tik” gradually shifted into variations like “Tick” and eventually “Tique,” a name he would write under for several years.
Later, while attending the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, classmates jokingly began calling him “the Dr.” Rather than dismissing it, he embraced the title and fused it with his existing tag, becoming Dr. Tique.
A defining visual element of his tag was a hand-drawn five-pointed star, consistently placed beside his name. Over time, this symbol became inseparable from his identity—eventually evolving into the final addition: “Star.”
And that’s how the name Dr. TiqueStar was born.
